Former Bellator champion and protagonist of great battles in the history of the sport, Eddie arrived at the UFC in 2014 and after three fights, with one defeat and two wins, he won the right to challenge the then holder of the belt. Rafael dos Anjos. The North American surprised the Rio native and scored a knockout in the first round.

However, in his first title defense, Alvarez was categorically dethroned. In the historic first edition of the UFC in New York, Eddie was 'humiliated' by Conor McGregor in the stand-up fight and was brutally knocked out in the second round. In 2019, the North American moved to ONE Championship, where he had a forgettable performance with two defeats, a victory and a no-contest, in four clashes for the Asian organization.
