Léo Santos loses to Jared Gordon and suffers third consecutive defeat at UFC 278

Third and last Brazilian to take action on the preliminary card of the UFC 278, Leo Santos suffered the same fate as his compatriots Daniel Miojo e Francisco Figueredo. The Brazilian veteran ended up defeated by Jared gordon in the unanimous decision of the judges (30-27, 30-27, 30-27). At 42 years old, the Nova União athlete felt the pressure and was dominated by the North American throughout the three rounds.

After having eight unbeaten fights in the UFC, Leo Santos is going through its worst phase in the organization with three consecutive defeats. The Brazilian has not won since July 2020.

On the other side, Jared gordon wins again after defeat to Grant dawson in April. The American now has four wins in his last five fights.

THE FIGHT

After 30 seconds of study, the one who took the initiative was Jared gordon, with a combination of jab and direct. Leo Santos combined the jab and a kick with the back leg. Using his greater wingspan, Léo attempted two front kicks, defended by Gordon. The North American tried to cut it short, but Léo landed a good knee to the waistline. Gordon responded with two good jabs. Léo connected with some low kicks and Gordon did well with his cross. Entering the final minute, Gordon increased the pace and unleashed a great sequence of crosses on Léo's waistline, who sought the clinch. Léo managed to break his rival's grip. Gordon crossed from the left and right into the Brazilian's face. Léo tried an elbow, but Gordon again connected crosses with both hands. Léo went all out for the takedown, managed to unbalance the North American and tried to take his back. Gordon, however, managed to free himself and was in an advantageous position in the grid game. Léo landed a good knee, but Gordon responded with a left cross. The round ended to boos from the crowd.

Just like in the second round, Léo started the final round with a front kick, answered by Gordon with a combination of crosses. Walking forward, Gordon put pressure on the Brazilian with jabs and crosses. The North American closed the distance and threw a few blows at the Brazilian's waistline, who accepted most of the blows without reacting. Léo tried a takedown, but Gordon defended well. Léo blocked Gordon's right leg, which unleashed dozens of blows on the Brazilian's waist and head until the end of the fight.

An illegal coup cost an almost certain victory of Luis Saldaña in the fifth fight of UFC 278. With Sean Woodson on the ground and practically knocked out in the first round, the Fight Ready athlete landed an illegal knee, giving his rival time to recover in the fight and, as a bonus, losing a point. Ultimately, the fight ended in a split draw (27-29, 29-27, 28-28).

Luis Saldaña, who was coming off a victory over the Brazilian Bruno Souza, continues with two wins and one defeat and now has a draw in the UFC.

On the other side, Sean Woodson He remains undefeated in three fights and has three wins, one loss and one draw in the Ultimate Octagon.

In the fourth fight of the night, valid for the welterweight division (under 77kg), Ange Loosa derrotou AJ Fletcher in the unanimous decision of the judges (30-27, 30-27, 30-27). Despite having dominated most of the fight, the Congolese-Swiss had to survive a great reaction from the North American in the second round to come out with the victory.

Ange Lossa scores her first UFC victory. The Swiss-born Congolese had been defeated in his debut, against Monuir Lazzez, in April.

On the other side, AJ Fletcher continues without winning in Ultimate. The North American, who arrived at the UFC undefeated, lost the two fights he had in the organization.
