Defeated by Ankalaev at UFC 277, Anthony Smith will undergo surgery after ankle fracture

The defeat for Magomed Ankalayev left lasting marks on Anthony Smith No. UFC 277, event held last Saturday (30). The American was the target of kicks to the knee and ended up knocked out in the second round, in addition to suffering a fracture in his left ankle. He will need to undergo surgery to correct the injury and has no plans to return to training.

The injury in question happened in the first round. At a disadvantage, Smith was trying to throw strikes to turn the fight around, when he threw one of his kicks and saw Ankalaev make the save. Instantly, the North American seemed to have felt it and confirmed to the corners, during the break in the fight, about a 'problem with his left leg'.

Anthony continued in the fight, but was the target of hard blows thrown by Magomed and couldn't stand it. The 'Lionheart', as he is known for his resistance in fights, felt the 'bitter taste' of his 16th defeat in his career in MMA. He now has a record of 36 triumphs and 16 setbacks, in addition to occupying fifth place in the light heavyweight division (up to 93 kg.), led by Jiri Prochazka.

On the other hand, with the triumph, Ankalaev qualifies himself for a possible chance to compete for 'gold'. The Russian achieved his ninth consecutive victory, in addition to 18 positive results and one negative result in his career.
