Recovered from a knee injury that left him out of the Octagon for almost two years, Herbert Burns is back, and exudes confidence. Opponent of Bill Algeo No. UFC Long Island, which takes place this Saturday (16), the Brazilian does not hide his determination to get back on track to victory. In an interview with 'Combate', the featherweight (up to 65,7kg) explained the hiatus in his career and spoke about his expectations for the clash.

“The stoppage was inevitable, because it was a serious knee injury. I had to have a reconstruction of the ligament in my right knee, the ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament). (…) I was out for a while, but that’s how it is, we have to adapt, we can’t force it”, said the athlete.

Without acting since August 2020, when he was surpassed by Daniel Pineda and suffered his first negative result in the company, the athlete says he learned from the stumble. This weekend, the Brazilian hopes to change the situation and once again dream of reaching the top of the under-65,7kg division.

“The biggest lesson from that fight is not to try to make weight in six days. That was the biggest lesson, that I didn't make weight and still lost the fight. I learned in pain. But it's not because you lose that everything is wrong, and it's not because you win that everything is right. (…) There were technical errors, but I think they were due to the physical limitations I was having, there was a lack of physical explosiveness, a lack of strength, a lack of gas to hold the position and to escape the position. Just do what was being done and we tried to adjust other things that we saw were wrong and had plenty of time. I worked a little more on striking, which I could do before grappling. I think the training was perfect and you will see a better version of Herbert Burns this Saturday”, he guaranteed.
