Former champion and current Ultimate commentator, Daniel Cormier gave his opinion on Alex Poatán, who positioned himself for a chance at the middleweight belt (up to 83,9kg.). On your program on 'ESPN', 'DC' praised the Brazilian's performance against Strickland, but highlighted that Israel adesanya could do the same with the North American. He also indicated 'shield' from UFC employees so that the trilogy can be carried out in MMA.

“Make no mistake, Izzy (Israel adesanya) would have done the same thing with Sean Strickland because Sean Strickland would have continued attacking. And he would have found himself in trouble because he continued to attack him. (…) UFC matchmaking was perfect with this guy, as they never let him fight a Marvin vettori or anyone who can stop his punches and hold him against the side of the octagon, and now he faces Izzy,” Cormier said.

Poatan's rapid rise has seen the Brazilian reach close to the top with just three wins in the organization. In his kickboxing days, however, Alex beat Adesanya on two occasions and there is an expectation for another meeting. Still, Cormier ponders a controversial result in the first fight.

“I want to tell people, don’t get too lost in the results of the first fight (Adesanya vs Poatan). Izzy was beating him in the second fight when he was knocked out. So go back and watch the kickboxing fight before we rush to judgment and expectation of what Alex Pereira can do with Israel adesanya”He concluded.
