On Saturday night (07), the Brazilian Melissa Gatto lost his unbeaten record in professional MMA. On the preliminary card of UFC 274, the flyweight (up to 56,7kg) had a balanced confrontation with the North American Tracy Cortez but was defeated by unanimous decision of the judges. The duel took place at the Footprint Center, in Phoenix, Arizona (USA).

The defeat to Cortez represented the end of the winning streak that Melissa had enjoyed since the beginning of her career. With eight wins and two draws, the Brazilian feels for the first time the 'bitter taste' of seeing her rival have her hand raised in front of her.

Yes, Tracy Cortez, he still doesn't know what defeat means with the Ultimate gloves and marks his fourth consecutive victory in the company chaired by Dana White. With nine triumphs and just one setback as a professional athlete, the featherweight girlfriend (up to 65,7kg) Brian ortega is consolidating itself with a big name in the division.

The fight

The duel started with a lot of study and few exchanges of blows on the part of the two athletes. Still in the first minute, Cortez took the Brazilian down and took her down. Even from below, Melissa showed an active guard and tried to grab her rival's arm. Tracy soon saw the danger she was in and got back to her feet. The Brazilian took down her opponent, went to her back and started to grab Tracy's arm. The North American resists and ends up on top in mount. Melissa kept a very active guard, while Cortez, even on top, was unable to attack with much freedom. The two athletes still went to the fence but the initial round ended.

The two fighters returned for the second half trying to strike, but the Brazilian soon tried to take down and pinned Cortez to the fence, however, without much success. Melissa landed a good combination and went down again. Behind the North American's back, the Brazilian athlete continued looking for a submission. Cortez had her back to the Brazilian and was punished by a barrage of punches. In an opening from his rival, Gatto almost caught Tracy's arm again, but his opponent managed to escape.

In the last stage of the duel, it was Tracy who took the initiative in the takedown and started trying to use ground and pound. The North American had many difficulties controlling the Brazilian on the ground. Melissa continued giving her rival a hard time even though she was on the bottom, trying to grab her rival's arms and legs to get a submission. The two fighters tangle on the ground and Tracy manages to mount the Brazilian. Cortez began to hit the Brazilian mercilessly and Melissa continued trying to survive in the final seconds. Gatto ended the round, literally, saved by the bell.
