Velasquez target's lawyer urges 'caution' in public accusations against child abuse suspect

Representative Harry Goularte, accused of child abuse and target of Cain Velazquez, in the case that resulted in the arrest of the former UFC champion in the United States, Stephen Defilippis spoke out about his client's case. After the defendant's absence from a hearing held this Wednesday (13), at the South County Morgan Hill Court, and a subsequent appeal for the session to be held virtually, the defense lawyer spoke to the press. After obtaining a postponement in the process, the professional asked for 'be careful' with public demonstrations in the case involving the MMA star.

“We want to prove his (Goularte's) innocence and I think the people who are here protesting (in front of the court) should understand that a person is innocent until convicted. He didn't commit a crime,” said Stephen, in an excerpt published by 'MMA Junkie'.

Absent from this Wednesday's session, Harry will have a new commitment to justice on a date confirmed for June 6th. The process, as authorized by judge Le Jacqueline Duong, will take place virtually, as requested by the defense.

Imprisoned since February 2022, Velasquez is accused of attempted murder. According to information, the former fighter's action was motivated after the alleged news that Goulart had molested a member of his family for four years.

In an attempt to 'take the law into his own hands', Cain allegedly got involved in a car chase, fired shots with a firearm and hit the suspect's father. The repeated infractions worsened the situation of the former Ultimate champion, who remains in custody without the right to bail.

This week, the heavyweight's defense had a new request for the fighter's release denied. A new hearing, however, is scheduled for May 6.
