Despite the defeat, Gilbert Durinho was able to leave the arena with his head held high and with the feeling that he did his best in front of Khamzat Shimaev. Upon leaving the Octagon, heading towards the locker rooms, the Brazilian did not hide his excitement at the reunion with his wife and children and left the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida (USA) to a standing ovation.

Considered a great underdog in the duel against Khamzat Shimaev, Durinho showed the world that the Swedish prospect is not that unbeatable. The Tupiniquim athlete took the promising welterweight (up to 77,1kg) into deep water and managed to drag him to a decision by the judges, something that had never happened in his tormentor's career.

Former welterweight challenger, Durinho remains in good spirits even after two defeats in his last three clashes. Beaten by Kamaru Usman in the title fight and now for Khamzat Shimaev, the Brazilian athlete hit Stephen Thompson in the meantime and remained among the division's elite. Born in Niterói (RJ), the 35-year-old fighter has a record of 20 triumphs and five setbacks in professional MMA.
