Willing to get back on track to winning in Ultimate, Mackenzie dern is prepared to face Tecia torres, on the main card of UFC 273, which takes place on April 9th. Despite praise for the North American, she trusts her jiu-jitsu to prove that she can still come out strong in the strawweight division (up to 52,1kg).

“I think it's a big fight for me to recover from the defeat and the injury. She'll pick up the pace, but she hasn't fought someone with my ground game. The fact that Tecia is shorter than me is a good advantage for me since she will need to get closer. Unlike Marina (Rodriguez), who could stay at a distance. I have been working a lot on my takedowns and I won't lose many positions like last time. I think I can finish it”, said Mackenzie in an interview with the website ‘BJPenn.com'.
The mission, however, is not so easy for Dern. To do this, she needs to do something unprecedented, which would be submitting Torres in a professional fight. The American has five defeats in MMA, all of which were due to the judges' decision.
“It will be a great opportunity for me to show that I have improved on my mistakes and see what I can still do in the division. She is a tough fighter and has never been submitted. Many of her fights go to decision and she is experienced. I’m trying to gain experience and that could be good”, concluded the fighter.
Fifth placed in the strawweight rankings, Mackenzie seeks to recover from the defeat suffered in her last fight, against Marina Rodriguez. On the other hand, Tecia is going through a great phase in her career. The North American comes from three consecutive victories and occupies seventh place.
