Considered one of the least popular champions in Ultimate, aljamain sterling told how he has dealt with criticism from haters from Internet. In an interview with 'MMA Junkie', the owner of the bantamweight belt (up to 61,2kg) said he didn't care about the attacks suffered, but promised to give his response in the UFC 273 next Saturday (09), against Petr yan.

“I don’t need people to like me. I don't need them to come up to me and ask me for photos, that kind of thing. Who gives a shit about that? This drug can go away at any time. One day, they support you. The next, they're talking sh*t, commenting, 'I used to be a fan.' You were never a fan. Not give a damn about. Why do you feel the need to stop your day to tell me this? I really don’t understand that,” Sterling said.
The owner of the bantamweight belt guaranteed that his focus on the duel against Petr yan and promised to respond to the attacks with a victory over the interim champion.
“I will never understand people like that. But in the end, I gain nothing from popularity. I'm in MMA to make money, to cement my name in history among the greatest bantamweights of all time. Everything else is just icing on the cake. I'm excited to compete and ready to shut up all these critics, couch professionals and really show (Petr) Yan that I am who I say I am”, concluded the 'Funk Master'.
Sterling's consecration as leader of the roosters happened controversially, in the UFC 259, in March 2021. After suffering an illegal knee from Yan, the North American was unable to continue in the match and the Russian was disqualified. Declared champion, Aljamain suffered a lot of criticism from fans and the specialized press, who suggested that he could have continued in the duel. The long-awaited rematch will take place next Saturday (09)
