“I was traveling when Dedé (Pederneiras) called me. The UFC offered me this fight (against Khabib) and I accepted. (…) I was the featherweight champion and (Nurmagomedov) didn’t think it was a good idea. I don't know if he wanted to face someone else. I think it could be a great fight,” said Aldo.

According to 'MMA fighting', the Brazilian did not confirm that the name in question was Khabib. However, the athlete said he would be 'a guy we thought would never reject, but they did, because his father didn't think it would be good'.

Aldo's speech comes months after a criticism made by Nurmagomedov about his recent trajectory in Ultimate. Retired since October 2020, the Russian questioned Manauara's success in the bantamweight division (up to 61,2kg) and even doubted that the fighter could reach a new title with the organization.

In a prominent position in the under-61,2kg group, Aldo has an appointment scheduled for December. On that occasion, the 'People's Champion' will exchange forces with Rob font. A victory for the Tupiniquim could put them in the front line to challenge the owner of the throne soon.
